J is for Journeys

Life seems to be one continuous journey full of smaller journeys that make it all worthwhile. Over the years, I have certainly had my fair share of journeys, some wanted, some lessons, some unwanted. But without them all, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

Journeys are wonderfully amazing things or segments in time that help us grow as humans. Sometimes they put things into a different perspective, sometimes they help you refocus on what’s important in life, and sometimes they bash you around a bit and you’re battling to come up for air before the next onslaught. What I really find fascinating is talking to people and find out about their journeys. Everyone is different and what they experience is unique.

I am a planner. I love planning for things to happen in the near or distant future. One of the things I am planning at the moment is the potential launch of a book out to the big wide world. That’s a pretty scary thought for a little writer like me, but once again, this is a journey that I have embarked on. The day was eventually going to come sooner or later, right?
There is so much that has to go into the planning of this thing though! I think I have it kind of sorted now, except for the fact that I’m not sure what book I’m releasing. Yes, you did just read that correctly. I can’t decide if I should release Tijuana Nights, or if I should release The Mediterranean Source. Fortunately, I have an excellent team of extremely helpful and patient people around me who are all assisting me weigh up the decision. Regardless of what book it is – it’s going to launch in July. Possibly at the start of July, but if it’s Tijuana Nights, it will be more like the end of July. And I’m good with that.

Another journey that I’m on at the moment is the building of my design business. I’m already rather busy with it, but there needs to be more and more. You see, one day I would like to eventually give up working the Evil Day Job, and live on the earnings of published books and the design work that I do. I really would. That was why I started up the business, to supplement my book income, to allow me to write more, to give me a bit more freedom in terms of time, and to continue to move and shake my way through the publishing world. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see my design work out there on the cover of books for all to see. Just imagine what that will be like for me once I get one of my big books out there. Eeeep!

And then there is the journey of parenthood. Abby is the most frustrating and yet delightful creature I have ever met. She learns and grows more and more every single day, and some days I have a hard time keeping up with her. At the moment, she seems to not be eating properly during the day – or even at dinner time, and then she wakes us at 3am hungry, and wanting milk. This makes for tired parents, who both have their own businesses and work long hours. I know that this part of the journey will phase out, and Abby will get the whole food thing together eventually. I just thank my lucky stars that I have an amazing Mother in Law who looks after Abby during the day, and is our support backup. If she wasn’t around to help us, that would make this part of the journey harder.

I think I have probably rambled on about my journeys long enough in this post. So, since I love other people’s journeys so much – how about you guys message me and tell me about one that you’re on right now. Share and share alike, I say!
